Focus Areas

-- 4D Network Founding Documents [4 of 5] --

Document lead: Alex

Aim:

Groups of likeminded individuals should strategise on individual projects that they'd like to undertake. Identify 1-3 initial focus areas for 4D Network to focus on. We need to decide the criteria for selection; brainstorm projects; whittle down to a top few. The first projects should be relatively short in duration (e.g. few months or less) since they are demonstrations to help us understand the utility of the network and course correct -- both how we run but also how we select the projects.

Selection Criteria for Initial Focus Groups

(1)  Does it fit the overall 4D Network vision of security, justice, welfare;
(2)  Strategic advantage of Network: that could not be done by any one of us but can collectively;
(3)  Is it (a) global, (b) long term, (c) rational, and (d) objective
(4)  Is it realisable in a short timeframe? (<3 months? for initial projects, to build momentum – longer term ones later)
(5)  Does it need a realistic amount of time? (e.g. <5 few hours per person per week)
(6)  Is there a clear/measurable outcome?
(7)  Is it systemic/institutional? (not just a short term win)

Initial brainstormed projects that meet all criteria:

(1)   Design a lunar governance system
(2)   Come up with a wellness index for people (a better HDI)
(3)   Influence new supreme court justice to replace Stephens
(4)   Get a Tobin Tax proposal and identified gov targets
(5)   Come up with a strategy for how Open Gov initiatives fit into positive global development (meta strategy)
(6)   Design/discover education prog firmly located in a global context that teaches creativity & interdisciplinary knowledge
(7)   Fiscal reporting system for Gov – income/outflows of gov
(8)   Exciting people about positive role of space in their future
(9)   Stop illegal Israeli settlements in Jeruselum (Yes, but not sure this meets all of the above criteria, Ham)
